My last work was created during a 4-week art residency in Saigon, just before I moved to Seattle. This experience allowed me to contemplate my cultural identity. I incorporated soil from Hong Kong which I brought into Vietnam, where I learned that "Saigon" comes from "kapok," a tree associated with resilience. To complete this piece, I wrapped the Hong Kong soil in resin, shaping it into forms resembling kapok flowers. This process was inspired by the lines from a poem: "fallen petals transmuted into spring soil, will again nurture flowers." My work, "Present," embodies the significance of the gifts derived from past endeavors, reflecting the interconnectedness of my heritage and experiences.
